Halloween Dirt Cake Recipe – How to make a fun and easy pudding dessert treats with healthy ingredients – with the video tutorial.

Halloween Dirt Cake Recipe

This Halloween dirt cake recipe makes a fun idea to make for, or even with, the kids for them to enjoy over the Halloween period, and especially at a Halloween Party.

Typically, a chocolate dirt pudding has a base of instant chocolate pudding with cool whip and then crushed oreo cookies as a topping.

I’ve tried to include wholesome, nutritious ingredients in my dirt cake version, as a balance to all of the not so nutritious foods my kids tend to enjoy over this time of year.

My kids and I always have so much fun putting this great treat together, and then of course enjoying the delicious dessert as a homemade sweet treat.

Dirt Dessert Recipe Ingredients

Here are the ingredients that I’ve included in my version of the classic dirt cake, as well as some ideas for adaptations for you to create the best dirt cake for your family.

Cream – you can use heavy cream, double cream, whipping cream, or any other cream that you can whip into a creamy pudding dessert.

Cream Cheese – is the perfect addition to incorporate a cheesecake like element to the fun dessert.

Sugar and Cocoa Powder – I go for one tablespoon of sugar to two tablespoons cocoa powder for the chocolate filling. You can feel free to adjust the ratio to make the dessert sweeter or more of a rich, dark chocolate dessert.

Chocolate Cereal or Biscuits – instead or oreo cookie crumbs, I’ve included a gluten free chocolate cereal which, when crushed, perfectly resembles the appearance of soil that the no-bake dessert is known for.

For the crushed cookies, you can feel free to use any chocolate biscuits or cookies you like, including milano cookies or other sandwich cookies.

You can crush the cookies by hand or use a food processor to make quick work of crushing the cookies to fine crumbs.

Gummy Worms – I actually found the worms I used in the dessert in the toddler food section of my local supermarket, and they include pure fruit and no additives, artificial colors or other ingredients you usually find in colorful gummy treats.

Other toppings ideas are candy pumpkins, tombstone cookies, candy corn and other Halloween treats to create graveyard dirt cake cups.

I usually prepare my dirt cake in one large dish, but you can feel free to divide the mixture into individual servings in plastic cups to take to Halloween Parties to serve on a dessert table.

My kids always have a good time lending a little help in preparing the fun treat to enjoy as a Halloween Dessert.

Place a couple of handfuls of chocolate cereal or biscuits in a ziploc bag, seal well, and then, using a rolling pin or saucepan, repeatedly smash until you have a bag full of crumbled cereal or biscuits that resemble dirt or soil. Sprinkle the crumbled cereal or biscuits over the chocolate mousse, then pop the gummy worms on top, crawling around the chocolate dirt cake. Place in the fridge for a few hours to allow for the chocolate mousse to set and thicken, then enjoy.
